WKRN News 2 is hosting their annual “Food 2 Families School Food Drive” to assist middle Tennessee families in need. Last year, 29 local schools participated, and students donated more than 277,000 items! We hope to have an even-bigger impact this year!

Elementary, middle and high schoolers will be collecting canned goods and other non-perishable food again this year, competing to see who can collect the most. All of the food collected goes to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee to help people facing hunger.

The food drive begins on August 26 and ends on October 31.

At Apex Moving + Storage, we are committed to having a positive impact on our community. We’re honored to be a part of this food drive. We will be providing transportation for the food collected from local schools to Second Harvest Food Bank. We will also be providing prize money to the top schools as a thank you for the students’ hard work in stocking Second Harvest and local pantries.

Cash prizes include:

  • $1,000 for the top three high schools

  • $500 for the top three middle schools

  • $500 for the top elementary schools

“Rising food prices and record inflation are two of the reasons we’re currently seeing 1-in-7 middle-Tennessee children facing food insecurity. Hunger affects a child’s health, how they perform in school and even their self-esteem. It’s why News 2 started the “Food 2 Families School Food Drive.” - Mark Duke, President, Apex Moving + Storage
